Mario’s Pizza: NY Pizza Pie in the Triad

Who doesn’t love pizza? With so many varieties of pizza there is a pie for everyone! It seems that almost every restaurant in the Triad offers some type of pizza, but don’t be fooled! Craving a bold, classic, favor-filled slice that is the size of your head?  Then check out Mario’s Pizza. There are seven locations in the Piedmont Triad so you can’t use the “too far to drive” excuse.

This was my first visit to the New Garden Road location. I actually stumbled upon this particular location by accident. However, I have previously eaten at some of the other Mario’s locations. This Mario’s Pizza is located in New Garden Crossing right off of Bryant Blvd, not far from the Piedmont Triad International Airport or Guilford College. It’s is the same shopping center as Lowes Food, Office Depot, Marshall’s and Dollar Tree. This would be a great place to stop in after shopping at the nearby establishments.

The New Garden location was very clean inside and offered a great ambiance. There was sufficient seating and a very open floor plan. I loved the free-standing streetlights within the restaurant and the subway map on the wall. There was plenty of room for the constant flow of take-out traffic. The staff was polite, extremely attentive and very helpful. Service was fast and our food was hot.

Mario’s menu is very extensive, offering items such as cheddar stuffed jalapeno poppers, baked ravioli, philly steak sandwiches, whole pizzas and pizza by the slice (among many others). According to the menu, their signature pizzas are so big they don’t even fit in a standard sized box. They offer a massive 24″ party pizza and their single slices are cut from the 24” pizza. One slice always fills me up (but it’s so good delicious I always say I could eat more). Thin, wide slices with hand-tossed dough are the staple of Mario’s menu, making this New York style pizza a favorite of many, including myself. The pizza is pretty greasy, but that is nothing that a handful of napkins won’t solve.

Their sandwiches are good as well. But, in all honesty, everything I have eaten at Mario’s Pizza has been fantastic!

The prices at Mario’s are reasonable, maybe just slightly on the high-end of ‘fast Italian food.’ For the quality of food and the portion sizes, the prices are well justified.

Mario’s has the best pizza I’ve eaten in the Piedmont Triad. It is much better than other New York style pizza places I’ve tried. This is as close to New York style pizza as you can get locally.
