Elvis is Coming to Downtown Winston-Salem!

I remember seeing the National Enquirer in the grocery checkout line when I was a kid. The headlines were so farfetched (and still are), everything from celebrities being near-death, to secret weddings, to everything in between. Two of the most featured celebrities I can recall from my childhood were none other than that of Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.

Sure…we all know that Michael Jackson was a strange fellow (RIP). He owned Neverland Ranch, displayed erratic behaviors, and did some questionable things during his lifetime. However, his music is part of the soundtrack of my life!!! And Thriller – that changed the music videos forever!

Elvis, on the other hand, is still alive, if you believe the Enquirer. It has been rumored that he appeared in the background of an airport scene in the 1990 film, Home Alone. He has been spotted working behind the checkout of a California grocery store and as a New York policeman. He was seen at a Burger King in Kalamazoo. The list goes on and on; believe what you want…

One thing I do know is Elvis is Coming to Winston-Salem on Sunday, December 2! He’s making a one-night appearance at The Millennium Center in Downtown Winston!

Elvis - Winston Salem December 2

This will be a great event that you won’t want to miss! I’ve heard through the grapevine that he will perform three decades of Elvis hits! The show will feature many of Elvis’ love songs, ballads, rock songs, and a few holiday tunes.

So who is Elvis? His name is Rick Brooks is one of North Carolina’s premier Elvis Tribute Artist; he an amazing performer that could give the real Elvis a run for his money. He looks like Elvis, sounds, and moves like him – he has Elvis’ likeness and his gift for performing is unmatched by any Elvis impersonator I’ve ever seen!!! If you close your eyes during his shows, you’ll think you’ve been transported back in time. I’ve seen him perform three times now and highly recommend his show to all Elvis fans!!!

This event is actually a fundraiser from Rick’s father, who is battling prostate and bone cancer. All proceeds from this fundraising concert will be used toward his medical bills. What a cool fundraiser, eh?

Tickets are a bargain at only $15 a person. One ticket price includes three musical acts (two opening bands and Elvis). The two opening bands, Unwritten and Crossing Avery, are both local, Triad-based musicians.

Unwritten has been playing around Winston-Salem for the last four years – playing shows at the now-closed Johnny and Junes Ultra Saloon and most recently The Sidebar (at Hutch and Harris Pub).

Crossing Avery has performed at festivals, outdoor concerts, and have opened for national acts; John Michael Montgomery, Sugarland/Kristian Bush, Jamie Lynn Spears, The Brothers Osborne, and Trick Pony to name a few. They released their full debut album “Way We Live” in July 2016.

Anyways – this is an evening you don’t want to miss. So make sure to purchase your tickets for this show! Follow the event on Facebook as well!!

On a final note – there is one connected between Michael Jackson and Elvis. Remember the whirlwind of a romance when Michael was married to Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie for a short period of time – and how could we ever forget the music video, You Are Not Alone?!
