Who is NC Triad Girl?

282265_10100447056602078_353589464_nHey Ya’ll!  NC Triad Girl here, but feel free to call me Laura. I’m a fun-loving, creative, slightly adventurous, travel savvy and most importantly, a thrifty cheapskate.

By day, I serve as marketing director, publication manager and social media guru for a small triad-based company. By night I dabble in photography and graphic design among a number of other hobbies. I am highly involved at my church and in community philanthropy efforts. It is a well-known fact that I have my hands in too many pots, but I only “do what I love and love what I do.”

I grew up in the small northern piedmont town of Rural Hall and graduated from Appalachian State University. Upon receiving my degree in communication, I moved to Greensboro.  I lived there for a couple of years and then moved to Winston-Salem after I got married.

As a frugal woman dealing with the recession’s aftershocks, I realized that people around me were cutting back on their vacations and travel due to rising costs. I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel around the country on business, but when it comes to personal travel I count my pennies and cut as many corners as possible.

I have always been fascinated with the idea of being a tourist in your own town and in the surrounding areas. There are so many places to explore locally that are simply forgotten when considering vacation plans. It’s always an exhilarating experience to board and airplane and land somewhere tropical. However, it can also be invigorating to learn more about your local backyard, that is full of history and adventure that surrounds us every day. My goal with this blog is to uncover hidden gems located in the Piedmont Triad. I plan to explore attractions, dining, shopping and special events that are only found in the north-central region of North Carolina.

After battling breast cancer in 2009 and I am now ready to live life to its fullest (and have a little fun along the way). I’m glad you are joining my escapades around North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad region.

Let’s begin our journey together…
